Our sweet Naomi Bea turned 2 years old last week! It’s hard to believe, but also it feels right. She sure acts like a two year old! It was also my mom’s birthday, which is so special for them to share the day. Both Joe and I went in late to work so we could share a pancake breakfast together, and then we went to dinner and of course opened presents in the evening. We did give Naomi one gift in the morning, her play kitchen! It was like Christmas morning, so fun to see how she loved it immediately. While I don’t see myself in Naomi’s appearance really, I do see myself in her spirit. She loves to play with babies and cook, and those were always my go to pretend play (that or Doris Day/broadway). It’s important for a girl to be well rounded. Naomi is a talker and putting two and three word sentences together. She has also started singing, the whole week she sang happy birthday to herself and it was the dearest thing.
When I think back to this time two years ago and even a year ago there is a slight ache in my chest. Of course I’m nostalgic for time with my little baby girl, but also memories of our life in DC are intertwined with those feelings. I absolutely know we are where we are supposed to be now, but gosh those were good times. I can’t wait to share those memories through pictures and videos with Naomi.
Naomi is a true gift to Joe and I, and I try to remember often to not take parenthood for granted. Every moment is a gift and now that I’m working again that is even more true.
